First, cream the butter with the sugar and vanilla sugar. Gradually beat in the eggs—do not add them too quickly, or the butter may curdle. Then sift the flour and baking powder and fold them into the mixture.
Grease a loaf pan with butter and sprinkle it with semolina or breadcrumbs. Pour half of the batter into the loaf pan. Peel, core, and chop the apple into small pieces, then spread them evenly over the batter in the pan.
Sprinkle with the cinnamon–sugar mixture, then pour the remaining batter on top of the apples. Sprinkle a little more cinnamon–sugar mixture over the top.
Bake the cake in the preheated oven at 150 °C (300 °F) on the lower rack for about 1 hour.
