Prepare the sponge cake:
Beat ½ cup sugar and egg yolks with an electric mixer with hot water.
In another bowl, beat the egg whites with the remaining sugar until the mixture becomes white and foamy.
Mix the dry ingredients (flour, starch, baking powder, cocoa, and vanilla).
Gradually add the egg yolk mixture to the beaten egg whites, then gradually add the dry ingredients, stirring gently from the bottom up.
Pour the mixture into a round or oval baking dish and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C until cooked through.
Shaping and Decorating the Cake:
After the cake has cooled, cut it and shape it to give it the shape of a turtle’s body [as shown in the picture].
Cover the cake with a layer of buttercream or white Chantilly cream.
Arrange Oreo cookies on the back of the cake to represent the turtle’s shell [as shown in the picture].
Use sugar paste or chocolate to form the turtle’s head and feet, and secure them in place [as shown in the picture].
Additional details can be added using white frosting around the edges of the Oreo and on the base of the cake [as shown in the picture].
