This method applies a homemade combination of white vinegar and baking soda to improve your wash routine, two surefire allies for maintaning clothes clean, disinfected, and residue-free.
The vinegar works as a natural fabric softener and neutralizes unpleasant odors, while the baking soda gets rid of stains, balances the water’s pH, and improves the detergent’s effectiveness.
In addition, this mixture is safe for almost all types of fabrics and prevents premature wear, as it does not consist of harsh chemicals.
Necessary ingredients
½ cup distilled white vinegar
2 tablespoons of baking soda
Your usual detergent (liquid or powder)
Warm water
(Optional) 5 drops of lavender or lemon crucial oil for a fresh scent
Step-by-step procedure
Prepare the base mixture:
In a bowl, blend the white vinegar and baking soda. Wait a few seconds for it to stop bubbling.
This reaction releases carbon dioxide, which helps get rid of dirt embedded in the fibers.
Add to wash:
If you use a washing machine, place the combination directly into the fabric softener compartment or drum, along with the clothes.
If you wash by hand, dissolve the mixture in a bucket of warm water and let the clothes soak for 20 to 30 minutes before rinsing.
Wash as usual:
Add your usual detergent and run a normal wash cycle.
The vinegar and baking soda will boost their cleaning action, removing built-up residue and softening fabrics.
Air dry:
Whenever possible, hang clothes in the sun. Sunlight helps get rid of bacteria and improves the natural whiteness of light-colored garments.
